When left untreated, AAD can rapidly progress to a highly lethal condition, due to rupture, tamponade, myocardial infarction, or aortic valve insufficiency ( 9, 10). Several well-described risk factors contribute to this condition, including advanced age, male gender, hypertension, aortic dilatation, connective tissue disorders, and bicuspid aortic valve ( 3, 5– 8). AAD is part of the spectrum of acute aortic syndromes (AAS), defined as a tear in the intimal/media layers, which creates a new lumen (false lumen), where the blood flows between the dissecting membrane and the adventitial layer. AAD is associated with a high mortality rate: ~1% of patients die/h ( 1– 4). Preliminary findings supported the usefulness of this classification for the decision-making process and subsequent treatments.Īcute aortic dissection (AAD) is a complex disease with a reported annual incidence of 2–15/100,000 inhabitants. Type C was treated with significantly more endovascular or hybrid interventions (37%) than in types A (3%) and B (20%) ( p < 0.001).Ĭonclusion: The new AAD classification was feasible, and type C was easily identified (“non-A, non-B”). MPS occurred in 39, 24, and 29% in type A, B, and C, respectively. Results: According to the new classification, we identified 152 type A dissections (92 A0, 11 A1, 38 A2, 11 A3) 50 type B (38 B0, 5 B1, 6 B2, 1 B3) and 24 type C (17 C0, 6 C2, 1 C3). AAD features were assessed and correlated to patient outcomes. AADs were reclassified with a new classification scheme that included three aortic dissection types (A, involving at least the ascending aorta B, involving exclusively the descending aorta and C, involving the aortic arch with/without the descending aorta) and four malperfusion grades (0: no MPS 1: dynamic MPS 2: static MPS 3: static and dynamic MPS). Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed pre-therapy CT angiograms of 226 consecutive patients (mean ± SD age: 64 ± 12 years) with AAD. The proposed classification was evaluated retrospectively in a large population. Objectives: To report a new classification scheme for acute aortic dissection (AAD) that considers the aortic arch as a separate entity and integrates patterns of malperfusion syndrome (MPS). 4Department of Heart and Vessels, Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), Lausanne, Switzerland.3Department of Radiology, Kantonsspital Frauenfeld, Frauenfeld, Switzerland. ![]() 2Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM), University of Lausanne (UNIL), Lausanne, Switzerland.1Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), Lausanne, Switzerland.Qanadli 1,2 * † Sonaz Malekzadeh 1 † Nicolas Villard 1 Anne-Marie Jouannic 1 Daniel Bodenmann 3 Piergiorgio Tozzi 2,4 David C.

![]() They arent like cordless tool batteries, and shouldnt be treated as such. (Never leave them sitting for a while not fully charged, that's the worst you can do to them). Lead batteries like to be kept fully charged, especially if you wont be using them for a while. Its more important to fully charge a new pack often, than any "memory effect nonsense". You can gamify tuning by ear by having students get into partners and detune each other's guitars. Have them sing the song against the Drone while playing the strings of a guitar that is in tune so that they can reinforce this connection between the pitches they are singing and the open strings. Turn the E drone on playing and sing the pitches of the open strings from high to low using the words “We Tune GuiTars By Ear.” They can make up their own words to the tuning song, but the end goal is for them to be able to auralize the intervals from the strings high to low. I like to teach my students a song to memorize the intervals between the open strings. If students are re-articulating the string while tuning, it can cause the string to sound sharp which will result in inaccurate tuning. I find it’s best to play the string first and then make tuning adjustments. Some students have a tendency to continually re-attack the string while tuning. This will ensure that string windings in the tuning machine don't slacken up and allow the guitar to go out of tune during playing. When students tune a string that is too high, instruct them to go slightly below the pitch and tune it up. When you are watching the students detune and re-tune their instruments, be sure to call out students who are doing a good job of being careful with their adjustments to positively reinforce the fact that large movements can result in string breakage. Repeat the steps for the low E string for the a d g b and high e strings. Take 5 minutes at the beginning of each class to work on tuning by ear. There will be some students that are better at this than others at this, but this gives them the ability to understand how much movement is necessary to make a pitch adjustment. turn the Drone back off and check each student's pitch by having them play it out loud. turn the Drone back on and instruct students to tune up to the E string by going counterclockwise to make the pitch higher. turn the Drone off and have each student play their flat E string. have them play the low E string and instruct them to turn the tuning peg clockwise one quarter of a turn to lower the pitch. have students hum along with the Drone so they hear when what it feels like when they are in tune. play an E drone on the classroom speakers. Crystallization of atoms or molecular compounds into ordered states has been a complex yet fascinating phenomenon that has attracted extensive scientific studies from classical to modern times, to cite just a few recent examples 1, 2, 3. The detailed growth mechanisms of the novel fractal-branching assembly into circular- or grating-banded patterns are analyzed in this work. Several compositions of the mixture of ethanol/water solutions and evaporation temperatures were also manipulated to investigate the kinetic effects on the morphology of PA crystals.
